Wear Volume Analysis Using a Nano-Lubricant for Ball-on-Disk Testing
نویسندگان
چکیده
The research presented in this article is a wear volume analysis of the effects of silver nanoparticles in a polyethylene-glycol lubricant (PEG). The ball-ondisk method was used to perform the tests and a surface profilometer was used to analyze the amount of wear produced by this nanolubricant. The results showed that with the addition of silver nanoparticles, the wear was reduced significantly in comparison to a control sample without any nanoparticles. This is in contrast to some of the nanoparticles which can actually increase the wear when added to a lubricant.

Synergistic Effect of MoS2 and SiO2 Nanoparticles as Lubricant Additives for Magnesium Alloy–Steel Contacts
The tribological performances of the SiO₂/MoS₂ hybrids as lubricant additives were explored by a reciprocating ball-on-flat tribometer for AZ31 magnesium alloy/AISI 52100 bearing steel pairs. The results demonstrated that the introduction of SiO₂/MoS₂ hybrids into the base oil exhibited a significant reduction in the friction coefficient and wear volume as well as an increase in load bearing ca...

The effect of CaO on the formation of β- and γ-zirconia nanoparticles from α-zirconia was investigated and their stability evaluated via mechanical activation. α-ZrO2+8.5wt%CaO powder was milled for 2-150 hours with ball-to-powder weight ratios (BPWR) of 40:1 and 60:1. Structural evaluations were conducted using X-Ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Thermal analysis wa...

This paper presents the experimental results of normal lubricant, additives added lubricants and waste vegetable oil (WVO) contaminated bio-lubricants to evaluate the tribological properties such that friction and wear characteristics. The test was conducted using a four-ball tribotester with standard test method IP239. The balls used in four-ball tribotester were based on carbon-chromium steel...
متن کاملStoring Period Effects on Wear Properties in Uhmwpe Inserts for Artificial Joints
INTRODUCTION Artificial joints have been increasingly used in treatment of physically disabled people who have severely damaged joints. In artificial joint, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has been usually employed as a buffer because of its very low friction coefficient, high wear resistance, high impact strength, and biocompatibility. [1]. When artificial joints were replace...
متن کاملCan Pin-on-Disk Testing Be Used to Assess the Wear Performance of Retrieved UHMWPE Components for Total Joint Arthroplasty?
The objective of this study was to assess the suitability of using multidirectional pin-on-disk (POD) testing to characterize wear behavior of retrieved ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The POD wear behavior of 25 UHMWPE components, retrieved after 10 years in vivo, was compared with 25 that were shelf aged for 10-15 years in their original packaging. Components were gamma ster...
